Harley Davidson is as much of an American classic as apple pie. Founded in 1903, Harley has been producing motorcycles for over 100 years and was one of only two major American motorcycle producers to survive the Great Depression. The company specializes in heavyweight motorcycles that are built for highway cruising. Harley is also especially renowned for their tradition of heavy customization which eventually lead to the “chopper” style of motorcycle.

Harley’s name alone is so powerful that their products could almost be considered a bonus! In fact, licensing of the Harley Davidson brand and logo accounted for more than $40 million of the company’s net revenue in 2010!

So how does a company become such an icon? Well, it all started back in 1901 when 22-year-old William S. Harley concocted a plan to put a small engine on the back of a bicycle. With the help of his friend Arthur Davidson and Arthur’s brother, they spent the next two years working on their motor-bicycle. Finally, in 1903, it was completed, and the boys were happy to find that the bike could conquer Milwaukee’s small hills without pedal assistance.

After their success, work immediately began on a new and improved version, and by 1906, Harley and the Davidson brothers built their first factory on Chestnut Street. This historic location still serves as Harley Davidson’s corporate headquarters today!

As the years went by, production numbers soared. In 1908, they produced 450 motorcycles. By 1909, their numbers skyrocketed to 1,149, and by 1914, production swelled to 16,284 machines!

Because of the store’s proximity to the Boeing plant in Everett, WA, the manager decided that the graphic should reflect Harley Davidson’s connections to airplanes throughout the years, as you can see from the photos.

Founded in 1959 in Eugene, OR, TacoTime has quickly risen as the quality leader in Mexican fare with more than 350 location across the United States, Canada, Curacao, and Kuwait.

TacoTime prides itself on having only the freshest food at an affordable price. It all began when WWII Navy veteran Ron Fraedrick dreamed of owning his own business after graduating from the University of Oregon.

After visiting Southern California, Ron’s love of Mexican food prompted him to want to start his own restaurant serving the delicious cuisine to the never-ending numbers of hungry college kids back in Oregon.

In 1959, he finally was able to get the money to start the first walk-up TacoTime restaurant adjacent to the university. Ron spent countless hours perfecting his food, even mixing and measuring just the right mix of spices into a 55 gallon barrel and rolling it around the parking lot to mix his secret sauce!

The food was so delectable that soon Ron gained a business partner from a satisfied customer. In 1962, the first TacoTime franchise opened up in Tacoma, WA. From its humble beginnings, TacoTime has expanded across the US and internationally and continues to delight the palates of its customers!

For the outdoor drive-thru signage, Washington Graphics LLC created a menu template on a large acrylic board. As you can see from the picture above, each section of the menu, such as drinks, sides, or salads, is simply stuck onto the larger board. A large-format, 72″ x 96″ vinyl graphic was applied to a piece of drywall, as you can see from the picture below. The stand-alone wall was then placed in the entryway to the store at the start of the event and sledgehammered by Seattle’s own Edgar Martínez as well as Carhartt’s CEO.

This upbeat event was well-attended by Carhartt and Seattle Mariners fans alike! Local radio stations were also in attendance along with many Carhartt executives and a Seattle councilman.

Carhartt was founded in 1889 and is headquartered in Dearborn, Michigan. It is still a family-operated company, owned by the descendants of Carhartt’s founder Hamilton Carhartt. The company is best known for its line of work clothes, including jackets, coats, overalls, coveralls, and dungarees.

Originally, Carhartt gained popularity as a producer of clothing for railroad workers. In the 1890s, the company focused on creating durable and long-lasting work overalls. Over the years, Carhartt began to create trademark features intended to increase the durability of their clothing such as using heavy duty threads, reinforcing rivets at stress points, and utilizing materials resistant to flame, abrasion, and water.

Today, Carhartt’s merchandise is widely used on farms, construction sites, and ranches. Furthermore, in 2007, the retailer released a women’s line of working clothing for the fall season. In the United States, Carhartt sponsors a number of events such as 4H and rodeos. Most notably, after 9/11, the company decided to donate thousands of bib overalls for rescue crews on the scene.

The retailer wanted to advertise different daily specials on one A-board without having to print multiple signs. As you can see from the pictures below, a black piece of sintra that could be placed into their A-board frame and written on with a special marker was the perfect solution.

Sintra is a smooth, lightweight, yet rigid board with a low-gloss, matte finish. It is very durable and resistant to moisture and many chemicals.

This beautifully romantic and exhilarating story is based on the famous Greek legend which tells of the heroic Orpheus as he descends into the underworld to rescue his true love, Eurydice.

The production begins with Orpheus mourning the death of his beloved wife at her tomb. Overcome with despair, Orpheus wanders into the forest hoping to pour out his sorrows into the streams, rocks, and trees. He even cries out that he would visit the Underworld to bring her back!

Hearing his desperate pleas, the goddess Amore appears and makes a deal with Orpheus. She tells him that he may go to the Underworld to retrieve his wife as long as he does not look at her during the journey home. Orpheus readily agrees and embarks on his trip to retrieve Eurydice.

He finds her in the Elysian fields, and despite the beauty surrounding him, Orpheus is still anxious to get his wife home. However, on the journey back to earth, Eurydice begs her husband to look at her as a sign of his affection. He is eventually overwhelmed by her passionate requests and gives in – once again losing his wife to the Underworld.

Will Orpheus and Eurydice be reunited once again? Or is there undying love lost forever? You’ll have to visit the Seattle Opera House to find out!

Founded in 1963 by Glynn Ross, Seattle Opera has grown to be one of the premier opera companies in the United States.
