The magnificent 5th Avenue Theatre has always been one of Seattle’s jewels. For 85 years, it has mesmerized audiences with music, comedy, and drama.
In its earlier years, audiences were drawn to vaudeville shows performed by only the best entertainers. 5th Avenue then transformed itself into a hopping movie palace for a period. After a stunning $2.6 million renovation in the late ’70′s, the theatre re-opened in 1980 to once again show its true glory to the world. It should come as no surprise that the building has been listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places since 1978.
Today, 5th Avenue Theatre produces top notch musical productions. In addition to touring Broadway musicals, the theatre has been known to be the ‘testing ground’ for new musicals before they make their debut on Broadway.
The 2,130 seat theatre brings approximately 150 musical performances every year, attracting over 200,000 people annually from around the world.
Locally, 5th Avenue is the largest theatre employer in all of Puget Sound, employing up to 600 actors, directors, choreographers, musicians, designers, stage hands, technicians, administrators, and box office staff every year. In each and every performance you witness on stage, an average of 30 to 50 people are working behind the scenes!
